WIT 2008 -‘In Spite of the Olympics’ Festival

WIT 2008 – ‘In Spite of the Olympics’ Festival. - 22nd – 25th August

We have had bad news in that we have been granted absolutely NO funding for the festival this year. After much soul searching we have had to take the only responsible decision we could - to cancel the main event for this year. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the debt from last year which so many of you have helped us to clear. Thanks for this must go entirely to the London Olympics, which is taking up vast amounts of arts funding and bringing bigger and better established organisations than WIT to their knees.

However....... we don't feel like letting the Olympic monster totally get the better of us. We plan to put on a much scaled down event for the August bank holiday weekend.

As we cannot afford to buy in the facilities we usually have we will be running an acoustic stage with fewer scheduled workshops than usual. There will be campfires and open stage opportunities for you all to get creative and Storywrights will be there contributing with creative writing workshops and storytelling.

We may not be able to provide a crèche but there will at least be a play area for children to use. We will be able to provide a basic café for drinks and snacks only so you will need to cater for your meals; however the local village shop is very well stocked and nearby town of Lampeter only a short drive away.

So get out your tent, creativity and enthusiasm and join us for a fun weekend, despite the Olympics.

Sorry – no online booking available this year

For bookings contact Michele on 01558 650 695 email michele@womenintune.co.uk Prices: £50 from Fri evening – Mon lunchtime. Watch this space for further details.

CREW JOBS AVAILABLE
We still need a good size crew to run the festival, please contact Michele (contact details above) if you are interested as the job options will be different from previous years.

Courses & Workshops

OCN Accredited courses for women held in Swansea and West Wales.

Sound Engineering

Do you want to be a sound engineer? Are you a musician wanting to improve your sound? It doesn't matter how good a musician or how talented a singer you are, when your band is playing you are at the mercy of the sound engineer!

The aim of the course is to give a general introduction to live sound work. All sessions are taught with a hands on approach to give you the maximum amount of practical experience. So whether you are a musician who just wants to know how a P.A. system works or you have no particular musical talent but fancy a career as a professional sound engineer, this is a good introduction and an excellent chance to play with the equipment. We will use live musicians at stages during the course, so you can set them up as for a live performance and carry out a sound check. You will also have the opportunity of trying out your new skills at Women in Tune evening performance events under the supervision of your tutor.

‘I am pleased I did the course, I have learned so much'

‘I have decided to go further into it. It was the best – thanks'

Workshops

Wit runs music and related performing arts workshops in the community. Watch this space for details or contact us if you would like us to run workshops in your area.

  Did you know…?

We carried out a 2 week study of music programmes on BBC 1 and BBC2 recently. Out of 155 musicians and vocalists performing their own songs (not including any ‘girl/boy bands') only 14 were women.
